Publisher: Puffin Books
Suitable for ages 2 - 5
Themes/Topics: community, circle of life, seasons, survival
Opening: In October he backed his ox into his cart and he and his family filled up with everything they made or grew all year long that was left over.
Brief Synopsis: The ox-cart man and his family load up the cart with all the things they have made or grown all year and takes them to market to sell them. He sells everything and returns home where the yearly cycle begins again.
Why I like this book: The beauty and simplicity of this book is magnificent. It parallels the simplicity of the time period for which it is written. The illustrations fit so well with the story as they provide a wonderful backdrop to this long ago story. I certainly recommend this as a new way to teach seasons and history.
