Who doesn't love apple pie??? I know I do. But that isn't why I decided to blog about this book today. I am involved in another challenge - ReFoReMo. Our guest today is Melissa Stewart, and she had a wonderful post about second person point-of-view. She provided great mentor texts to read to get a feel for that type of writing. A couple of her suggested metro texts were How-to books. All of a sudden I thought, I have one of those, and I love it.

In Texas, one of our TEKS is to read and write procedural texts. Well this one is perfect. It is not a boring "how-to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich" book. You actually travel the world to locate the ingredients that go into an apple pie. Think of all the fabulous lessons that can come out of that. And to make it even better, there is a recipe for apple pie in the back of the book! Awesome!

Here are some links to ideas so you don't have to take time to look...I know how busy teachers are!
